How it works

  • PPS membership is applied for on an individual basis. However all applications are made and paid for centrally by your organisation.
  • The discount is applied every year and is based on the membership rates for that year.
  • The discount you receive is based upon the total membership applications and renewals over a 12 month period. So, the discount is applied for every 10 members you sign up or renew in that time.
  • You can add new members at any time as and when people join your team.
  • To make administration easier, we contact you quarterly to organise membership renewals.

Why offer PPS membership to your team?

There are many ways your employees or members of your team can benefit from membership of the Psychologists Protection Society. Here are just a few:

1. We protect practicing professionals and students in the talking and listening therapies as they practice by:

  • providing a choice of three different levels of tailored Professional Protection Insurance
  • providing Public Liability Insurance
  • offering access to a FREE legal helpline
  • offering FREE therapy-based support and advice from fellow practitioner

2. Our tailored CPD resources and activities have been developed by fellow therapists to promote professional best practice and help members avoid problems wherever possible.

3. We pay the Professional Protection Insurance excess for your employee or team member if they need to make a claim.

4. Members can apply for financial assistance from our unique Discretionary Trust Fund. This has been used in the past to provide:

  • support with contractual and practice issues
  • counselling sessions
  • mediation

Peter Jenkins, who has recently produced an article for our PPS Professional Practitioner website entitled "GDPR: Thoughts on Implications for Practice", has recently written a new book. The new book is entitled "Professional Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy - Ethics and the Law". Although the book is focussed on the BACPs Ethical Framework, it also covers broader perspectives on good professional practice. Topics covered include: practising as a therapist in different roles and organizational contexts, working with key issues, including difference, vulnerable clients and risk, understanding the law and relevant legal frameworks & and working ethically.

PPS is giving away two copies of "Professional Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy - Ethics and the Law". Two lucky therapists will win a copy of the book.

Sounds like a good addition to th ethics and law canon on practice. Would really appreciate winning this.

I would love to win this.... it sounds like it would be a big help.

Yes please, it will be such a help as I start my own practice.

One of the crucial things to be mindful of as a good therapist: working within the law. If only it was that straightforward practically... I'm sure the book would be very useful in this regard... for me definitely 🙂

I would love to have as a reference for good practice

Looks like the kind of book I need.

This book would be so useful - sounds like a great reference.

Looking at its contents, this book provides all the practicalities of becoming and being a psychotherapist. A much needed book for all practitioners. Thank you for writing and publishing it.

Sally Woodhouse for your private practice work!!

Sounds great - such an important subject.

Sounds great.

Sounds brilliant! Especially with the changes coming up in May! Xx

Would love this book it sounds as it would be a great tool and support as don't always feel that in rural Ireland.

A much needed revision of the law a it apllies to our practice, and linking it with the BACP framework will empower the counsellor and so, also enrich the clients' experience of the counselling service.

Yes please would love this! 😍
