This online interactive presentation explores how to reduce the risk of ruptures or complaints arising when a client, supervisee, or trainee experiences you as holding more power—whether through race, gender, class, or other factors.
Those with social power and privilege are often unaware of it, and consequently unaware of how life is for those without. Complaints frequently develop when clients (or supervisees and trainees) do not feel heard.
This presentation will introduce resources to help you better understand the experiences of those living outside the charmed circle of privilege. Short awareness-building exercises will be included throughout, along with time for questions and discussion.
About the Presenter
Rose Cameron has been training counsellors and psychotherapists in a variety of educational contexts since 1996 and is currently a Professional Tutor at the University of Edinburgh.
She spends most of her working life with clients and has worked with a wide range of groups in her practices in Manchester, Edinburgh, and Fife.
Her published works include Difference and Diversity in Counselling and Psychotherapy and Skills in Person-centred Counselling and Psychotherapy.
